United Nations Commission on the Status of Women
The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the primary intergovernmental authority on promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women.
In this session, the CSW will convene to discuss the ever-prevalent threats to the wellbeing of women that lie in conflict zones and in developing nations. As countries go into conflict, and new ones are born, violence against women continues to grow internationally, perpetuated by government non-efficacy. when new countries and developing countries construct the legal frameworks for the operation of the government, women are often left unprotected and left without many of the fundamental rights their opposite-sex counterparts enjoy regularly. This committee will confront means of building equality in volatile areas for women, while accounting for the delicate nuances of operating in dangerous and infrastructurally unsound areas.

Leah Lazaryan - Head Chair
Hey! My name is Leah and I am from sunny Los Angeles (more specifically, the valley). I’m majoring in Political Science and minoring in Entertainment Law, on a pre-law track hoping to pursue a career in entertainment law! I spent the summer interning at my local trial court house and became even more intent on pursuing law. Aside from my career based interests, I spent the summer working at Hollister, avidly watching World Cup games (I come from a soccer family), went to Hawaii, and started learning the Armenian alphabet. In my free time, I play tennis (fun fact, I played competitive tennis for 11 years), update my matcha tasting list, plan a night out with the girls, binge any of my favorite reality TV shows, or test my luck on Ticketmaster for my next concert. I can’t wait to see you all for TrojanMUN!
Sophie Boxwala ~ Co-Chair
Sophie is a junior studying Economics with a minor in Political Science. She is from San Diego, CA, and this will be her second semester in Model UN. Outside of MUN, Sophie Ioves being involved on campus through Phi Alpha Delta, the Trojan Law Review, and Concerts Committee. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts exploring LA, and spending time with friends. She is very excited to be the co-chair of TrojanMUN!.
Landen Scott ~ Crisis Director
Landen is a junior at USC majoring in Political Economy and Global Studies, minoring in Statistics and Narrative Structure. He is from Sammamish, and joined MUNSC in his freshman fall of 2024. He has previously served on the executive board of USC MUN and TrojanMUN Secretariat. Outside of MUN, he spent the summer working as a Civil Rights Analyst Intern with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Landen is incredibly passionate about criminal justice reform and health equity in at-risk community. On campus, Landen is also a part of Prison Education Project, Dornsife Ambassadors, and Political Union. In her free time, Landen enjoys baking, updating his Beli, and hanging out with his friends! He is beyond grateful to serve as your crisis director and can't wait for an incredible TrojanMUN 2026.
