Los Angeles LGBT+ Movement: 1960s
Los Angeles has always been a diverse city. A mixing pot of immigrants, prospectors, businessmen, and filmmakers, LA has a storied heritage of having people of all wakes and backgrounds.The same can be said for the LGBT community, which has had one of the richest cultures in Los Angeles as early as the 1920s.
In this 1965 committee, delegates from all backgrounds will meet in Los Angeles in the midst of one of the greatest LGBT movements in the country. This takes place directly following the Black Cat Tavern incident, wherein multiple patrons were assaulted and arrested for kissing in one of LA’s largest gay bars. In this committees, delegates will explore the demonstration that will follow, and continue to plan and fight for LGBT rights in Los Angeles and the world.

Samantha Schachter ~ Head Chair
Samantha is a rising senior in USC’s World Bachelor in Business program, where she has spent her university years studying across Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Milan. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she joined MUNSC in Fall 2023. In her free time, she’s usually planning her next trip or searching for tickets to her next concert. If you’re looking for travel recommendations, music festival suggestions, or just want to compare playlists, she’s always happy to chat. Samantha is excited to welcome everyone to TrojanMUN and looks forward to an incredible weekend of debate!
Aria Hajali ~ Crisis Director
My Name is Aria Hajali, and I am incredibly excited to serve as the Crisis Director for the LA LGBTQ+ Committee. I am a second-year student studying Music Industry, and have minors in Nonprofit Management and Cinematic Arts. Ive been involved in music, dance, and art my whole life, and hope to couple the skills from MUN with my passion for the arts! At USC, I’m involved in student government, our usc orchestra where I play the cello, Concert planning committee, and volunteer around our community. Currently I’m working at the LA Phil in marketing and partnerships where I combine my passions for music, event-planning, and marketing!
